Introduction The sixth-largest metro in North Carolina, Fayetteville covers a total area of 155.3 km² (60.0 mi²). It is located in Cumberland County in North Carolina's Inner Banks region, on the Cape Fear River.
The community was named after the French soldier Marquis de Lafayette, who supported the colonists during the American Revolution.
